Quintana Roo Covid 19 Update October 25 2021

We know many of our customers have questions about the current status of Covid 19 in Mexico and specifically Akumal. Mexico implements a stoplight system of green, yellow, orange and red to determine what type of protocols are to be adopted.

Orange and red have tight restrictions on hotel occupancy and tourism, but we are happy to report that our area is currently under the green color. This means that tourism has pretty much returned to normal without restrictions.

We follow the safest protocols in masking, disinfecting and cleanliness and were awarded the Certificate of Protection and Sanitation by the Secretary of Tourism. The Caribbean region began to relax Covid-19 restrictions on March 1, 2021. The green status means that we are under low risk because of the drop in cases and hospital occupancy.

In January of 2021, the United States started requiring proof of a negative Covid-19 test administered within 72 hours of departure. Border restrictions for travel for vaccinated foreigners may be easing, however, we expect that the US government will continue to require a negative test upon entry.
There are many places to get this test in and around Akumal. There are doctors who will come to your hotel room to perform the test and give you the documentation. Alternatively, testing is available at the Cancun airport.

Testing can be found in the passenger terminals and offer a rapid Covid-19 test. This test is sufficient for US entry, but some European countries require a different type of test so check with your country.
Testing is open from 6AM to 9PM at the airport, and takes approximately 30 minutes to get the results. Cancun provides ANTIGEN tests that cost approximately 290 pesos (US $14) per antigen test. To avoid lines or inconvenience, we suggest you get your test prior to going to the airport.
